Tools in this module

• The Vieweranimator tool, providing services to (manually or automatically) step through multi-dimensional images.

• The Viewercanvasmanager tool, which provides services to control the appearance of the canvases owned by Viewerdisplaypanel tools.

• The Viewercanvasprintmanager tool, which provides printing services to for the canvases of Viewerdisplaypanel tools.

• The Viewercolormapmanager tool, which is used to generate and modify colormaps for use by other tools in this module.

• The Viewerdatamanager tool, which provides a simple graphical user interface for constructing and destroying Viewerdisplaydata toolsfrom files and tools.

• The Viewerdisplaydata tool, which is used to render false color images or contour maps from various data sources (AIPS++ Images or Glish arrays). To become visible to the user, Viewerdisplaydata tools must be registered with one or more Viewerdisplaypanel tools, but they can be created, manipulated and destroyed without ever being registered. More generally, the Viewerdisplaydata tool embodies some data source, and some method for drawing that data.

• The Viewerdisplaypanel tool, whose fundamental purpose is to provide a "canvas" on which Viewerdisplaydata tools can draw themselves. This tool is where users should expect to see their data displayed.

• The Viewerannotations tool which can be used to annotate display panels.

• The Viewerslicepanel tool, which provides 3D slicing capabilities. Apart from this the interface is very similar to the Viewerslicepanel tool.

Example

Here is a trivial example to give you the flavour of using a Viewer tool. Suppose we have an AIPS++ image on disk and wish to view it on the screen then generate a "quick" PostScript file of the image, with axis labels:

This gives us access to the Viewer tool code, and in particular, the defaultviewer tool.

Create a Viewerdisplaydata tool which is a raster representation of the AIPS++ Image with the given name.

Turn axis labelling on.

Create a Viewerdisplaypanel tool for rendering.

Register the mdd Viewerdisplaydata tool on the mdp Viewerdisplaypanel tool. At this point, the raster should now be visible somewhere on your screen.

Print a copy of the raster on the screen to the named PostScript file, at a nice high resolution of 300 dots per inch.

7.

Destroy the Viewerdisplaydata tool.

8.

Destroy the Viewerdisplaypanel tool.
